1. Write a short note on coma.
2. Explain colours in thin films.
3. Explain the working of Babinet's compensator.
4. Find the radius of the first zone in a zone plate of focal length 20 cm for a light of wavelength 500 nm.
5. In Michelson's interferometer, 200 fringes cross the field of view when the movable mirror is displaced through 0.0589 m.m. Calculate the wavelength of monochromatic light used.
6. State and prove Malus law.
7. How the gas Lasers are advantageous than solid lasers?
8. Explain the modes in optical fiber.

9. (a) What is spherical aberration? Explain any four methods of minimizing spherical aberration.
(Or)
(b) What is chromatic aberration? Obtain an expression for chromatic aberration when
(i) Object is placed at infinity and
(ii) Object placed at finite distance
10. (a) How are Newton's rings formed? Describe Newton's rings experiment to determine the wavelength of monochromatic light.

(b) Describe the construction and working of Michelson Interferometer. Explain how the wavelength of monochromatic light can be determined using Michelson Interferometer.
11. (a) Discuss Fraunhofer. diffraction due to single slit. Obtain expression for intensity at a point in the diffraction pattern. Deduce the condition for maximum and minima.

(b) Describe the construction and working of Zone plate. Obtain expression for its focal length.
12. (a) What is double refraction? Describe the construction and working of Nicol prism.

(b) What is plane polarized light? Explain the method of producing plane polarized light by reflection and refraction.
